Mera is the Queen of Atlantis, leader of the Dimension Aqua and Aquaman's wife. Mera is strong and
beautiful. Mera's origin and history are a little all over the place and have changed over the years.
However I have still always liked her as a character. She has a couple different variations on her
costume, but my favourite one, hands down, is the halter body suit with the white collar. I find there is
something so sharp about it that so many of her other outfits don't have!
I spent FOREVER trying to find this fabric. I was originally looking for something with a scale
print on it. I found red scales, pink scales, blue, yellow, purple and I don't even remember what
else. BUT NO GREEN! I couldn't believe that there was nothing that was green and scaled. I was
just about to give up, because there were no green scales, and all the metallic greens I found
were incredibly ugly. Then the last time I went fabric shopping I stumbled across my
green and I fell in love with it! It was so lovely to work with, it is a colour I can wear,
and it was not horribly shiny! My crown is also made out of the same type of fabric in
a gold. I did also make bracers that match the crown, however at the last minute I
decided that I wanted to do my Mera with a little more jewellery and detail, so I opted
not to use my bracers and instead wore a bunch of gold bracelets. I may one day do
photos with a more simplified version of Mera with my bracers, but for now I am
super happy with how everything turned out!
Debut: Has not technically happened yet,
this has just been worn for a photoshoot so far
So this costume was originally made to be debuted at the Toronto Wizard World
Comicon as my costume for the Sunday, however after my car was broken into on the Friday Night I was unable
to stay for the entire convention. I did however get a chance to do pictures with my good friend Tricky Love with
my brand new camera a few days after! My goodness I am pleased with how well my camera works! And Tricky
did an awesome job getting these wonderful wonderful pictures! Though I will say this much, wearing a skimpy
body suit and sandals out in the snow is incredibly cold! We did have a bit of a learning curve with the camera,
and because of the snow a lot of the photos were super blown out, I did my best to salvage them, but I do
apologise for how super bright some of the pictures are.
