So this is my about me section. I’m a twenty two year old theatre student residing in Ontario Canada. Though
acting is my true passion in life I have a deep love for costuming, and have recently become rather enthralled
with the hobby of Cosplaying.
I have always had a great love of Anime, and was raised a true gamer. I don’t believe I’ve ever been without a
game system. And have since become an avid collector of systems and their games. I also have a very
extensive DVD collection and a comic collection to rival that of the local comic book shops. I’ve also been
drawing pretty much all my life, and have always had a great love of almost all artsy things. I believe all of
these things have contributed greatly to my interest in cosplaying.
My first convention was the Canadian Fan Expo in 2007. I had made costumes
before for Hallowe’en and random theatre endeavours, but had never been to a
convention in costume. Earlier that year I started working at a fabric store and
met a young woman who was interested in costuming as well. I had mentioned
that I had always wished to make a Lulu costume from Final Fantasy X and she
added that she would like to make a Moogle costume. So, we decided that we
would make those two costumes and go to the next convention in the area, which as chance had it was Fan
Expo.
The first day of the convention was complete bust for us. I have to admit if it weren’t for the immense
epicness of the rest of the convention the first day probably would have chased me away from cosplaying and
conventions completely. We had encountered a great deal of trouble actually getting to the convention, then
getting into costume and when we finally got into costume and
made it there is was right at closing. I had made a Cooking Mama
costume specifically for that Friday but it never ended up getting much
love because of the lack of time actually spent at the convention.
We woke up bright and early for the Saturday so we could fix any
mistakes we made the first day. We got into costume and arrived at
the convention right at opening. The convention was soooooo huge
and the reaction to our costumes was amazing! It was almost
overwhelming, but ultimately amazing! Raviekins (the young woman who is dressed as my moogle) came up
with a skit for us to perform at the Masquerade and mixed a wonderful sound file for it. Our skit was a
Random battle between Lulu and her moogle, and was quite fun to do! And After that Saturday alone I was
hooked! My first convention was amazing; there were so many great new people, absolutely unbelievable
costumes, and epic fun all around!
I had made three costumes for Fan Expo and since then I have made a great many more. Costuming has
become a huge part of my life. And though it is just a hobby, it is a hobby that is very dear to me. Although
my Lulu costume was no where near the first costume I ever made, it was the first recreation costume I
actually poured my heart into and spent more than a couple days working one. So as far as I’m concerned it is
my first real costume.
Though I have no real training in costuming or design I have been sewing for as long as I can remember and
have been working to improve other aspects of costuming (such as wig making/styling,
and prop making) by pretty much trial and error. I am still fairly new to this, so please
be patient with me. My costumes are not the best, but hopefully in time I will start
making much better things.
Aside from costuming as I stated before I am a theatre student which is likely why I
enjoy dressing up and participating in Masquerades. My true love is Shakespeare and I
would absolutely love to be able to make a living performing Shakespeare on stage.
I am also an avid skydiver! I went skydiving for the first time two years back, and much
like costuming, it hooked me for good. There are so many wonderful and strange
people I met through skydiving, and I find it’s an
amazing incentive for me to stay in shape. Though it was a rather expensive
hobby for me to get into, I think it is one of the most rewarding things I
have ever done!
I am also an avid animal lover and I own several pets, including three cats
a dog and a whole lot of little critters.
